Yeah, that's right. You heard me. Stop celebrating a pathetic excuse for a holiday that has absolutely no redeeming values and say it with me:
FUCK CUPID!![/u][/i][/size]
Feel free to move this to the rants forum. I don't care.

Agreed. Every time I hear someone say "Why don't you celebrate Valentine's Day?", I just want to blast their idiotic, materialistic heads of with a shotgun. You don't hear anyone hear about the extraction of religion from Valentine's Day, after all... even though it is, in fact St. Valentine's Day. What I hate the most is how I, a perfectly healthily socially awkward person, am expected to have a girlfriend at this time of year, and moreover spend half of my yearly income on her for this one fake holiday. Fuck cupid. Someone shove his bow down his throat or something.

And an arrow up his ass, too. The whole concept just blows. I mean, WTF?

Ah yes, day hating: for when society in general just isn't a big enough target.

Actually, society in general is too big a target... I'll leave that enormous effort to Disgruntled Misanthrope.

oh where is the love!! I agree that consumerism is a ridiculous and has spiralled monstrously out of control but the festival it'self is older than that.
There was a roman feast day when women where more fertile etc, and cupid was responsabel for copulation etc and it was seen as the perfect day to try for a son.

Right where it belongs: in the safety and privacy of my own home, rather than in a convenience store.
Yeah, sure, the festival is older than the current holiday. But isn't it also true that the fact remains that what Valentine's Day is now hardly resembles what it was then?

It's signif that spring is coming I'm very overly romantic, Your clearly an Augustan poet, not the wonderful metaphysical stuff.
It's only a wee day when completly unsentimentle people show a bit of affection.
It's sad but Valintines for some people is the only day some people show affection.
Its the saving day of the shy and nerds a like!

Actually, it's the dying day (metaphorically at least) for most nerds and shy people, because guess what? They don't have a girlfriend.[/b][/u] Valentine's Day makes anyone who isn't in a committed relationship feel somehow like less of a human being. The commercialism is the least of the reasons I hate it. The celebration of monogamy and the discrimination I'm on the receiving end of every year are far larger factors.

Meh, if I love someone I tell them that verbally often enough that a card is just redundant.
