I really want to get a D&D game started, not using the actual gameplay mechanics, but really just the setting (in this case Faerun.) Anybody up for it?

I've never heard of Faerun... is this a later version of D&D than the one I play?
(I think the one I play is 1st edition -- I know the copyright date is 1980)

Faerun isn't an edition, per se, its a campaign setting (like Greyhawck, Dragonlance, Eberron, etc.)

Yeah, but that answers my question... they didn't start with the campaign settings until after the version I play.

Campaing setting are pretty easy to pick up... they basically just give you new, pre-made places.
By the way, the Forgotten Realms (Faerun) setting came out in 1987, a bit after your first edition game.

To be honest, i don't even really know what D&D is. All i know is a people like us Magic geeks play it...and...well...thats it. What is it? Or should i be asking this in another board?

There's a D&D Board, but that's not necessarily the place to ask that question -- I think it's okay here too. Basically, D&D is a game where you use pencil (NEVER pen, because character's stats are going to change and therefore need to be erasible) and paper to keep track of a character's stats, instead of doing it online. It also has more of a randomness element to it than an online RPG, because dice are used to determine other character's reactions, whether an attack is successful, and various other gameplay elements. But the portrayal of the characters is done in much the same way as the Conclave Adventures -- you state what your character is doing, and then see whether or not it works in the way you intended. EDIT: But I think what Ereinion is talking about is doing an online RPG, and just using the D&D "universe" as a setting.

The edit is correct. Although if y'all want, we could do one using actual dice. (There are online dice rollers for those of you w/out all the d20s and d4s and whatnot). I'd volunteer to be DM in that case.

I'm willing to learn...well, if it isn't too complicated. My brain is already filled with MTG rules, inserting more stuff might make it go ~FUZZZZ~ or something.

I have everything except a d30 -- and I know where to get one of those now. ;D @ape: If it gets confusing, we're here to help. Since Ereinion and I have played D&D before, we'll have to help other people who haven't had that experience as well. Besides, I've never tried to do a D&D campaign online before. That, in and of itself, might get confusing.

I've never tried to use it with dice. It might take a bit longer than a non-dice rpg, but still feasible

If its played on paper then how can you not have the most recent version?

If its played on paper then how can you not have the most recent version? Because, you can choose which rulebook to use -- and since I only own one, I play that one.
