I've heard of it twice now (once when you just mentioned it), but I don't know anything about it.

I've heard about it. Part of the ongoing conflict with the IRA, if I remember correctly. One of the longest running internal investigations of an event in British history.

Peaceful protest was attacked by the armys 13th paratroop regiment, who killed civilians and then claimed they were armed, still on going investigation, all very interesting.

Yeah, everyone has heard about it....if you live in Britain. Thats the same thing as the 1916 Easter Rebellion right? Or is that another uprising?

Well no...easter 1916 was well in easter 1916 this was..... On January 30, 1972, soldiers from the British Army's 1st Parachute Regiment opened fire on unarmed and peaceful civilian demonstrators in the Bogside, Derry, Ireland, near the Rossville flats, killing 13 and wounding a number of others. One wounded man later died from illness attributed to that shooting. The march, which was called to protest internment, was "illegal" according to British government authorities. Internment without trial was introduced by the British government on August 9, 1971. The British-government-appointed Widgery Tribunal found soldiers were not guilty of shooting dead the 13 civilians in cold blood. Although another enquiry has been launed and the judgement is still penidng.

Well, to some of the more sadistic folk, bloody and horrible isn't a bad thing.
And yes, I meant the song, not the event. Precisely why I mentioned "U2" in the same sentence as "Bloody Sunday". Besides, I'm an American; I have my hands full with complaining about the administration here to actually bother caring about events in other countries (exempting Iraq, because we're shaping them to be us, and they therefore count as America. No. This is not a good thing.)

As people, most politicians are jackasses, from what I can tell. However, we have had some very good Presidents, in temrs of skill in leading the country... Take Clinton, for example. Bad man, what with the sex scandal (none of our fucking busniess, anyway), but a very good President. He brought us into a surplus. And then, of course, Bush dug us back into several trillion dollars' deficit... guh.
