This is different from a usual Proboards poll because I want to pare down the list a little before starting a real poll. Any of these movies that doesn't get at least 1 vote in this round won't move on to the next round. You can only vote once, although you can nominate a film I overlooked without having it count as a vote (unless you want to vote for that film in addition to nominating it). 2004 films are included as well (to be fair to films that were around when the site first opened, but were gone by the time I came up with this idea). Here's the list:
Shaun of the Dead: 1 vote King Arthur: 1 vote Batman Begins: 1 vote Star Wars Episode III Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban Hellboy Resident Evil: Apocalypse The Ring 2 The Grudge Alone In The Dark The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy Constantine Sin City Spiderman 2 Elektra The Chronicles of Riddick Van Helsing Cursed Boogeyman White Noise Darkness Land of the Dead Alien Vs. Predator I, Robot The Stepford Wives The Amityville Horror Dawn of the Dead Bewitched War of the Worlds Herbie: Fully Loaded The Incredibles Robots The Adventures of Sharkboy And Lava Girl Shrek 2 Phantom of the Opera Catwoman Troy Blade Trinity The Forgotten The Crow: Wicked Prayer Exorcist: The Beginning Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist Seed of Chucky Ella Enchanted

Batman Begins, certainly. Unlike most of the comic-book hero movies (Spiderman, Fantastic Four, the Hulk, the list goes on) this one was actually exteremely interesting. Though there are some storyline discontinuities between the original Batman backstory and the happenings in the movie (the creation of the joker/the death of batman's parents' killer), I was quite impressed by the overall quality of the production.
BTW, what criteria do the movies have to meet to be on that list? If it had been on there, I woulda voted for National Treasure, which I found very entertaining. The casting was not the greatest, but the film was a bit reminiscent of Indiana Jones and is not unrealistic in terms of stupid overblown stunts and ranting villians, which is a plus in my books. Also, my friend's dad did a good deal of research, and apparently the whole backstory about the Knights Templar and the Masons was largely true, though the size of the involved treasure was probably imbellished upon. However, whether it has been found or where it could be is an unknown. It was good enough that ya hardly woulda known it was a Disney film.

I agree that National Treasure was an excellent film, but the main criteria for these awards is that something paranormal, supernatural, extraterrestrial, or higher-tech than modern times allow is in the film (or, in the case of Batman Begins and Phantom of the Opera, if it's a good goth film -- the one thing I liked about Batman Begins besides the villains was the overall dark and creepy atmosphere).

Of course! That makes perfect sense. I feel silly now.
