It is awesome. The season premiere was great. It opens up a whole bucket of questions, and you know we're going to love how they tell us the answers...

I wonder how Desmond got on the island? Or when they're going to introduce Michelle Rodriguez... I saw her name go by at the beginning and got all excited, then they never showed her. I think Jack should let Desmond shoot Locke... he's more trouble than he's worth. He reminds me of those fanatic types who believe something is going to happen, but then they have to MAKE it happen instead waiting for it, and they fuck everything up in the process. Kind of like George W. Bush and the Iraq War/Book of Revelations theory.

Do you remember how Desmond said he was "almost a doctor once"? I bet the hatch is some kind of research project, and he's a scientist on it... or maybe the test subject.

What was he injecting himself with? Could anyone tell?

No... actually, I couldn't tell he was injecting anything.

In the very beginning, when they were showing where he lived inside the hatch, they showed him shoot up with something. It was kind of a urine-colored fluid, if I remember correctly. I thought it was steroids, especially after I saw him run, but when you mentioned he might be participating in an experiment, I started to think it might be something stronger.

I remember that. You're actually closer to where we're at than you think... unless they bombard you with reruns for three months over there, too.

Actually, there are people who are hooked worse than you. I've talked to people who watch the DVDs of the first season over and over again trying to pick up on secrets.
Anyway... let's see...
S P O I L E R
S P A C E
Boone and Locke found the hatch in the ground in the episode you just watched, I believe. They spend several episodes by themselves, not telling anyone else about it, futilely trying to get it open. In flashbacks, it's revealed that Boone and Shannon had a one-night stand. This explains why Boone is acting so jealous toward Shannon's new romantic interest, Sayid. Boone does, however, warn Sayid that his stepsister "has a pattern of using people to get what she wants". At the hatch, Boone asks Locke why they can't tell the others about their discovery -- or at least Shannon. Locke replies that Shannon isn't ready to hear such information. He hits Boone on the head, knocking him out. When Boone wakes up, he's tied to a tree with a knife in front of him. He manages to contort himself enough to pick up the knife and cut himself loose, then wanders aimlessly through the jungle until he sees the monster grab Shannon. She dies in his arms, and he goes back to camp and attacks Locke. Locke asks him, if she died in his arms, why there's no blood on him. Just then, Shannon and Sayid walk into camp talking and flirting happily. Locke reveals that he spread a hallucinogenic substance on Boone's head wound, allowing him to have his "vision". When Locke asks him how he felt when he saw Shannon die, Boone replies that he felt "relieved". After that, Boone becomes sort of a disciple of Locke's (although the word most often used by his fellow survivors is "lapdog" rather than "disciple").
Michael, deciding the island is no place for his son after finding Locke teaching Walt how to throw knives, starts building a raft with the help of Jin. Sun reveals to Michael, then to Kate, that she speaks English. Walt tells Locke, before Locke has told anyone about the hatch, "don't open that thing in the ground".
Sawyer and Kate discover a locked Halliburton briefcase while swimming in a lagoon one day, and Sawyer realizes Kate wants it desperately and refuses to give it to her. Kate goes to Jack, telling him the case contains four guns and a healthy supply of ammo (which obviously is not something that should be in Sawyer's possession). Jack threatens to stop supplying antibiotics to Sawyer if he doesn't hand over the case, but then after getting the case finds out that Kate doesn't have the key. They dig up the federal marshal ("Shrapnel Guy") from the first four episodes, and get the key from his wallet. Jack makes Kate agree that they'll open the case together. Inside, along with the four guns, is a small toy airplane, which it's revealed in flashbacks Kate obtained in a bank robbery. When Jack asks her about it, she tells him it belonged to the man she loved, then breaks down and admits it was the man she killed. Walt continues reading the Spanish comic book with the polar bear, and sure enough a polar bear appears on the island again, attacking Michael and Walt and leading viewers to the conclusion that Walt has some very bizarre powers. Locke and Boone help fend off the polar bear, and Michael and his hated enemy Locke come to a sort of mutual understanding. Claire comes back, but she seems to have amnesia.
Ethan corners Charlie and Jin in a clearing, knocking out Jin and pinning Charlie against a tree. He threatens to kill one of the survivors each day until Charlie brings Claire to that spot. Charlie goes back to camp and tells Jack, Locke and Sayid. Jack and Charlie want to go out on the offensive and find Ethan, but Locke and Sayid want to stay put and strengthen the camp's defenses. Jack and Charlie reluctantly agree to the others' plan, which involves (among other things) an alarm system of tripwires and tin cans. Kate finds out what's going on and suggests that Jack pass out the guns in the briefcase, but Jack refuses, stating that guns in untrained hands are more dangerous than helpful. Ethan makes it into the camp undetected and kills an extra... someone refers to him as "Scott" at the funeral and Hurley states, "Dude, that's Steve."
Realizing he has no choice, Jack opens the briefcase and gives guns to himself, Kate, Sayid and Locke. Sawyer, who shot the first polar bear, still has a gun as well. Charlie is upset he doesn't get a gun. They lay a trap for Ethan after convincing Claire to be bait. Ethan disarms Jack, and they fight. Ethan finds himself on his back and under the guns of the other four. They're about to interrogate him when Ethan has a gun emptied into him from offscreen. The camera pans over to reveal Charlie, who followed the party, holding the gun. When asked why he shot Ethan, Charlie replies "I wasn't going to let that animal anywhere near Claire again." Claire and Charlie share a tender moment on the beach later where she reveals that she remembers peanut butter. Charlie tells her, "It was imaginary peanut butter, actually" as the first smile we've seen from him in several episodes crosses his face.
Jack and Michael have a conversation by the raft in which Michael says he wishes they had a transmitter to increase the likelyhood of being rescued by a ship when they leave. In flashbacks, we learn that Hurley won the lottery using the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 (VERY important numbers later on). Hurley starts to believe the numbers are cursed when bad things start happening to his family. Back on the island, he sees the same numbers on one of the Frenchwoman, Rousseau's, maps (now in Sayid and Shannon's possession). He asks Sayid what the numbers mean, but he doesn't know. Hurley steals the map and goes off into the jungle on his own. He encounters Rousseau, who reveals that her group was led to the island by a transmission that repeated the numbers over and over again. She agrees with Hurley that the numbers are cursed, since they resulted in her being shipwrecked and the other members of her party all dying. She gives Hurley a battery, and he goes back to camp and gives it to Jack, who is talking with Sayid. He tells Sayid, "She says hey." Later, Hurley and Charlie have a conversation in which Hurley tells Charlie the plane crash was his fault. Charlie says that's ridiculous, then reveals that he was a drug addict. He says he's just revealed his deepest, darkest secret to Hurley, and would appreciate it if Hurley shared something with him. Hurley tells Charlie, "Back home, I'm worth one hundred and fifty-six million dollars." Charlie looks at him for a few moments, then says "Fine, don't tell me. I bare my soul and all I get is bloody jokes." Then the camera zooms in on the mysterious hatch Locke and Boone discovered, which has something written on it. As the camera gets close enough, it's revealed that the numbers -- 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 -- are on the side of the hatch.
Okay... I still have other sites to visit and my hands are already starting to hurt from typing, so I have to stop for now. I'll catch you up more later if you want.

Yeah, it's weird how they're doing the flashbacks... the death of the man she loved actually took place before the bank robbery (but was aired in a later episode), if I remember correctly. I'm going to have to go back into the Lost Episode Guide to refresh my memory about some things, though.
