NEW YORK — An early, long-unpublished work by J.R.R. Tolkien is coming out.

"The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun," a thorough reworking in verse of old Norse epics that predates Tolkien's writing of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will be published in May by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Haha, yea. I'm actually a bit excited about it. I wonder how heavily "fixed" it is by Chris though..

Probably pretty heavily, though that could be a good thing... so far, I've enjoyed the stuff that Chris has worked on.

Indeed, I liked Children of Hurin, but it was no where near as good as the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings. I tried to find something he wrote himself once, but all I could find is Middle Earth stuff that he edited.

Yeah, I don't think he's written anything by himself yet... just edited his dad's work.

I forgot about this already, until I saw someone post about it on Librarything in their "currently reading" thread. It's out now, and on LT it has an average user rating of 4.8/5 so it seems people are liking it. I'll have to check it out once it leaves the New Releases section in my library.
