Tolkien and his Oxford buddies had a club where they discussed lore, and the effect of this lore on social situation. So here we discuss the effect of LOTR on the world.

Well, for one thing I think it made people more environmentally aware, because of the Ents. I'll probably have more to say later, but I'm kind of braindead right now.

Defo more aware but think about all the stuff surounding the 2 towers and the sep 11th incident it's weird that it was such a coincidence.

Actually, I didn't associate LOTR with 9/11 until someone mistakenly referred to the movie as "The Twin Towers" in front of me.

Congratulations on that interview. Good luck, and let me know if you get it... the current book I'm writing takes place at Oxford, and I could use some consultation from someone who's actually, like, seen the campus and stuff.

Well - The only thing I know about the meaning of LOTR is that Saruman was supposed to represent the industrialized world and how technology is destroying the world...

I would agree, although there are definate feminist overtones to Eowyan.
(I've been to the campus a few times--> What you wanna know?)

I know that, contrary to what my newspaper believes, LotR has nothing to do with WWII and rebuilding afterwards.
(I take it that if you get into Oxford, you are joining Taurithorn?)

As for effect of LotR on lives, there's actually a book coming out about that. Lembas for the Soul. Not joking here.
