Dreams
I dreamed I saw a field of copper sunsets, tinged with red,
The dazzling blooms bent and dropping
Exhausted, their life spent in idle longing.
I dreamed I saw a stream of rippling sunrise,
A silent shelter for the walking dead, were man can fetter life away
Among the rushes and reeds that once held unanswered wishes
So we awake, anew, refreshed, reborn, in an old skin to a new world,
Different and yet not so, changed and yet unaltered
By the slow relentless march toward tomorrow.
But if by some bleak unfortunate chance,
Not to see a new beginning but the same old ending
Like a broken record on a crackling gramophone.
What then can we do but hope? For hope is all that remains when spirits,
Long chained to earth are freed in hope, by hope;
For something better, something clear, something new
