Time: Sometime after the War of the Ring
Place: Mirkwood
Characters: (Wren, human ranger) various elves in Mirkwood, evil residents of Mirkwood. Feel free to choose any character (you’re character can be original or not as you choose) you would like evil or other wise.
Also use any of the npc’s you care to in your posts.
Plot: We will get together in Mirkwood at the Halls of Thranduil, and set out to determine what has been happening in the southern regions of the forest, especially in the ruined tower of Dol Guldur. Then hopefully we will return to the elven King to report back what we have learned. Then we’ll just take it from there.
Background. The elven King Thranduil has sent word to his allies asking for aid in discovering what it is going on in the Southern region of Mirkwood. The tower of Dol Guldur was destroyed by the Istari in the third age. Sauron moved to Mordor, and was defeated during the War of the Ring. Something evil is growing in power down south. Thranduil has sent out elven scouts to discover what has moved into the region. So far none have returned. The King is of course worried about his own realm, but the connotations of the evil pervading Mirkwood could have far reaching effects, affecting all of Middle Earth.
My post:
The ranger was in Rivendell at the time word came in From Mirkwood. She had come to Rivendell to stock up on herbs and medicines for which there was no better resource. She was allowed to attend the assembly where the messenger from Thranduil was speaking. The message was for all free peoples so there was no reason for her to be there. Elrond would send one of his elves to Mirkwood, but he felt that a smaller group might have greater success than an army at discovering the secrets of the missing scouts. The elf selected was known for his ability to travel silently and almost invisibly. He was an expert archer, and was equally talented with his throwing knives. He agreed to accompany Wren to Mirkwood, and the two set off the very early the next morn. They set off at a fast pace heading for the high pass with the ranger on her stallion, Morwinyon, and the elven archer on his own mount.
After many days and nights the two of them arrived at the entrance of Mirkwood. They decided to spend the night in the grassy meadow before venturing into the wood. They had an uneventful night, and Rode into the gloomy wood, soon leaving daylight and fresher air behind. They were careful to stay upon the enchanted paths, and they had enough food to last them until the home of the wood elves, but the ranger was a little concerned with finding a water source. She had enough with her to last another day of she were careful and her companion held the same.
The next day the two travelers and their mounts had finished off the l had finished off the last of their water. They were debating whether or not to leave the path to go in search of water, when a scout of the wood elf kin came across them, and offered to show them to a spring. There was a small trail veering off into the forest, and the scout warned them that was not magically protected, and occasionally a spider would be near, but they found the spring without harm, and let their horses eagerly drink their fill. They refilled their own canteens and thanked the scout profusely. He was headed the other way, patrolling the path, so the parted ways. Late that evening they arrived at the King’s Halls. The guards allowed them entrance, and due to the lateness of the day, they were shown to rooms of their own to rest for the night, and given food and drink.
(ooc Just pm me if you have any question.)
