Argh There is no board for this so I thought I'd moan about it here!
No argh no!! That movie was aweful!
What was with the liberal destruction of the text!
Priam was not a coward and he is not killed by Agamemmnon
Breisis is not Priam's niece but was called Cassandra and was his daughter
Phyruss (Achillies nephew) is not infact his nicey-nicey nephew but an evil blood thirsty son of Achilles who murder Petonacle Hectors brother in front of Priam and Priam himself on the alter of Pheobus Apollo!
Paris and Menaluas never did battle!
Menaluas was not killed by Hector but returned to Greece
Agamemmnon made it back to Greece to be murdered by his wife for adultry with Cassandra the phrophet.
Agamemmnon was not nearly as evil as they made him out to be! He was noble and had been instruced by the Gods (Hera) to avenge his brothers honour, at the breach in the laws of hospitality.
Hectors wife and child never escaped Troy but were captured. Hectors son was hurled from the walls of Troy and his wife was taken as a slave by Phyruss to Sparta and bore him children.
Hector never killed Phyruss it was Orcietus because Phyruss stole his wife. Orcietus murder him while he prayed to Mars (Aeneid- Roman) after he had given Aceantaea to Hectoralus (Hectors Brother) They founded a second troy in Lybia.

Wow... I didn't realize they had gotten that much wrong. Of course, I've only read The Iliad once, so I had forgotten most of that stuff. I did wonder what happened to Cassandra, though. And what was up with the amicable relationship between Paris and Helen? Didn't Aphrodite have to force her to have sex with him?

Well the whole point was that although she really loved Menaluas she was the prize that Paris asked for from Aphrodite for giving her the apple. So it was forced, but the fact that they left out the gods really made me mad!
Sean Bean is so obv. gonna make the Oddessy, but if they leave out the gods from that it;s gonna be borin! -No curse of appollo over the cows -No curse of Poesideon -No cyclops -No gifts of Athena -No transformation....
There is just no action in it if you take out the gods!!

Yeah, I actually thought it was weird how they were undecided as to whether or not to bring in the gods... remember, they did have Hera (I think -- whichever goddess Julie Christie played as Achilles' mother -- my mythology's a bit rusty ) make an appearance.

She a mortal called Thetis. She was incredibly beautiful and endowed with prophetic powers and was the attention of many gods, it had been prophesied that Thetis' son would be more powerful than his father, this was the reason Zeus did not have a child with her.

Oh. Did they change that in the movie too? Because I could've sworn that she was a goddess in the movie. Of course, I only saw it once.

Well she was given this whole serene galdriel wannbe-ness because they needed a way to explain the fact she knew that Achilles wouldn't come back from Troy.
