[glow=orange,2,300]I've heard that George Lucas isn't making Episodes 7-9. This, of course, leads me to wonder if someone else will. And so my question becomes: what should Episodes 7-9 be? And where are they going to get funding?[/glow]
I personally think they should use Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire series, just because Grand Admiral Thrawn >>> Darth Vader. And as for funding (or for that matter, a director), the midget gnomes of Hollywood have never failed us before. Except in Episode 1, but that was an isolated incident, K?

I'd love to see anything with Thrawn in it on the big screen, but I'd love to see something along the lines of the X-wing books even more. As for midget gnomes... well, aside from being a great name for a band, they can't screw it up any more than Peter Jackson did with LOTR.

The X-Wing series on film would rock! They'd have to find good actors though...
Capital ship battles w00t!

Yeah, the X-wing books would be awesome. And they even have the graphics to do it now. I prefer the Heir to the Empire path, though, for three reasons:
1) Grand Admiral Thrawn is just such a cool character that it would be a crime not to make a movie with him. It really would. His tactics, personality, and red eyes are just so..... indescribably :Dish.
2) The Zahn series comes in a group of 3, whereas the X-wing books don't. The Episode sequences always come in groups of threes.
3) The voices in my head tell me so.

I totally think they should make the other 3 but none of the cast who are supposed to be in it are young enough. Mark Hamil vowed he'd never do another star wars, and lets face it Harisson Ford is not a young man.
I love that series, but thye should have made it sooner, beside this series wasn't Lucas' idea, he gave permission for it to be written but they wern't his brian child.

Which brings us to the canon issue, which I think is complete bullshit. It's why, even if I'm invited to write in the SW universe, I never will. I just don't believe people should accept money for writing fan fiction.

Well in many wasy Lucas' universe was so diverse that it is simelar to writing about the real world. The style however is my issue. If the style is copied then it's worng.
Zahn is an excellent writer but his flair would be better directed toward writing period/ war novels which would allow the passion and zest in his writing to be appreciated in it's own right rather than as an imitation of Lucas' style.

You really think so? Interesting. I could never picture Timothy Zahn writing a Civil War novel, or any other recent war novel for that matter. He seems to excel at writing futuristic novels, so I think he should stick to SciFi. Unless by period you meant "future", in which case I've been stupid for however many characters are in this post.

I mean novels that are removed from this period. He has written a period novel I think, my dad was talking baout it a while ago, with my brother. I'm not sure what it's called, I'll look into that.
I just think his talent is wasted if he's trying to copy Lucas.

The entire Heir to the Empire series . It was absolutely amazing. They were the first Star Wars books I read, and it's a good thing I picked them. Timothy Zahn needs to win an award for them. Preferably a very large trophy that he can throw at all who oppose him.
