I'm actually HOPING there's a repeat of last election's fiasco. Maybe it'll inspire people to finally abolish the electoral college.

Heh, yea, i don't quiet see the point in that...at all. Isn't is supposed to like...help smaller states...because presidents would normally ignore them I thought every vote counted And i hope things drag out like last year too...that means more debating in class and less work

The Electoral college was explained by Devo months ago on the 'Clave. It is a necessity because it prevents areas of mass population from being swayed and messing things up. And besides, Bush won the popular vote anyway, so there.

I'd just like to point out how fucked-up our country is by announcing that Nader wasn't even on the ballot in Virginia. Apparently he "didn't get enough signatures". What the fuck is that? When you announce you're running for president, you shouldn't need anyone to sign for you. You should just be on the fucking ballot.

The problem with that is that every schlub and their brother could say they're going to run for president and get their names on national ballots. THAT would cause a fiasco, and many of them would get all of 12 votes. Forcing him to get enough signatures means he has to find at least some voting base in the state, otherwise he might as well be some random schlub.
And Gore did not win the election, if he did he'd have been president the last four years. GG.

Both my grandparents on my mom's side died of cancer.
Guess what? I can still take/make an occasional joke about cancer. As long as it's decent and not in horrible taste, which is, in fact, a matter of taste. Me, I didn't find that offensive, but more moderately politically aware. Chill, man.

And Gore did not win the election, if he did he'd have been president the last four years. GG. Funny, when every recount shows that Gore won the state of Florida, therefore obtaining the required number of electoral points to become the President of the United States, I constitute that as winning. What Congress decided doesn't change that.

The Electoral college was explained by Devo months ago on the 'Clave. It is a necessity because it prevents areas of mass population from being swayed and messing things up. Devo did leave out the downsides though. The major one is voter apathy. All you have to consider is your home state of New Jersey to see what I mean, Bass. How many people do you think decided not to vote simply because their state was "secure"? If every person's vote counted rather than the just the battleground states, people everywhere would actually bother to vote because their vote would make a difference.
